Discovery Communications has named longtime industry exec Courtney Menzel senior VP for domestic distribution, effective March 1.
Menzel, who worked as an affiliate sales and marketing executive with MTV Networks for 14 years, was most recently at Current Media.
She will lead national accounts and field sales and marketing efforts for Discovery’s domestic distribution team, responsible for 13 U.S. networks, nine HD channels and all Discovery U.S. Hispanic networks.
She will report to Bill Goodwyn, prexy of global distribution and CEO of Discovery Education for Discovery Communications.
Menzel “has proven her ability, time and time again, to build strong, productive client relationships and mutually beneficial partnerships. With Courtney onboard, Discovery is extremely well positioned to continue its solid tradition of using the strength of its brands and quality content to drive incredible value for distributors,” Goodwyn said.
In her new role, Menzel will oversee all aspects of Discovery’s partnerships with distributors, as well as its sales and marketing team. She will develop and direct all national accounts strategy with top distributors and will oversee the domestic distribution field sales team and all affiliate marketing efforts nationwide.
Menzel will manage the teams in the Silver Spring, Md., headquarters, as well as the Los Angeles and Charlotte regional offices.
