Pay cabler also has 'Vlad Dracula' in development

Starz is ramping up its original series slate with the development of two projects, “Vlad Dracula” and “Incursion.”

“Incursion” comes as part of Starz’s overall deal with “Spartacus” creator Steven S. DeKnight. Project, which is a sci-fi action-thriller that centers around soldiers battling an alien race on exotic planets, comes after the announcement that “Spartacus” will be shuttered following its upcoming third season. Decision to end the show was made by the pay cabler in tandem with DeKnight.

J. Michael Straczynski and Roy Lee are teaming for “Vlad Dracula,” which will blend the history of the 15th century Prince of Wallachia with the fictional lore of Dracula. Rob Tapert, who has already logged credits at Starz with “Spartacus” and the “Xena: Warrior Princess” series, is also on board to produce.

It’s believed that “Vlad Dracula” could become one of the first projects from Stracynzski’s newly formed shingle, J.M.S. Studios.
