Craig Wright inks overall deal with Fox 21

Scribe will develop projects for shingle and supervise other writers

Scribe Craig Wright has inked an overall deal with Fox 21.

Wright, an accomplished playwright, has penned and produced drama skeins including “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Brothers and Sisters,” “Lost” and “Six Feet Under,” which earned him an Emmy nom. Under pact with Fox 21, he’ll supervise scribes and create new projects for the shingle.

“We really think of Fox 21 as a writers studio,” Fox 21 topper Bert Salke told Variety. “Writers come first. This deal with Craig is the perfect example of what we want to do here: get in business with people who have a strong voice, a high level of writerly talent and who often have experience running TV shows and making movies.”

Most recently Wright created and exec produced the upcoming MTV dramedy “Underemployed,” which was inspired by the life of his twenty-something son. While Wright has been known for his work on dramas throughout his career, “Underemployed” has allowed him to flex his comedic muscle. Salke, however, finds Wright’s humor throughout the scribe’s work, even within drama.

“I’ve known Craig for a long time,” Salke said. “He started on ‘Six Feet Under,’ and in everything he’s ever done, all of the shows have the same kind of sardonic, existential humor that Craig also has in his plays.”
