Comcast subs get ‘Smash’ sneak peek

NBC drama offered three weeks early on Xfinity TV

NBC is giving subscribers of its parent company’s cable service, Comcast, a headstart on the midseason series “Smash.”

Though the hybrid tuner drama doesn’t begin until Feb. 6, Comcast subs can get a three-week jump on “Smash” via Comcast’s digital platform, and Xfinity on Demand.

The pilot will be available there as of Jan. 16 and also on the Xfinity TV iPad app beginning Jan. 23.

There will be supplemental material in support of another midseason launch, “The Voice,” Jan. 19.

Peacock’s move with “Smash” continues the trend of nets embracing online platforms to drum up promotion for skeins. NBC offered early online peeks of its fall comedies “Whitney” and “Up All Night” in September in a pact with Yahoo. Fox built strong word-of-mouth for its “New Girl” by making the pilot available on iTunes.
