LONDONU.K. satcaster BSkyB has commissioned feature-length docus from Beeban Kidron and Errol Morris for its Sky Atlantic channel. Kidron’s “In Real Life” looks at how Western teenagers grow up in virtual worlds, and how this affects their sense of identity. Kidron’s credits include “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.” Morris’ “The Unknown Known: The Life and Times of Donald Rumsfeld,” is described as “equal parts in-depth character study and meditation on historical narrative.” It aims to challenge preconceived notions of American power, history and politics, according to the satcaster. Producers are The Moxie Pictures, History Films, Radius TWC and Participant Media. Both have been commissioned for Sky Atlantic’s “Footprint” stand, which recently ordered Nick Broomfield’s docu “South Central,” and acquired U.K. rights to “Al Weiwei: Never Sorry.” Sky Atlantic aims to build a reputation for backing high-end docus, with the “Footprint” strand, due to bow next year, either commissioning or acquiring up to 12 films a year.
