But NBC show easily tops Monday; 'Smash' solid

ABC’s ”The Bachelor” saw a nice uptick with its season finale on Monday, but the dating show was well down from last year and easily toppled head-to-head by NBC’s ”The Voice.” Despite week-to-week declines, ”Voice” and another solid showing from ”Smash” kept the Peacock on top.

Meanwhile, next Monday is shaping up to be a big one, with the return of ABC’s ”Dancing With the Stars” and original episodes of the CBS comedies. Also, ”Smash” will look to hold onto its improved numbers of the last two weeks when it goes up against original 10 p.m. drama competition for the first time in three weeks.

Looking at last night’s results, ”The Voice” averaged a strong 5.1 rating/14 share in adults 18-49 and 14.3 million viewers overall in its first outing this year during daylight savings time. It was down 18% week to week to a season low, but still had no problem topping ABC’s ”The Bachelor” finale (2.9/8 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall), which grew 16% from last week for a season high but finished with the show’s lowest demo average to date , and down more than 30% from last year’s especially strong season-ender.

In the 10 o’clock hour, the ABC special ”The Bachelor: After the Final Rose” won with a 3.3/8 in 18-49 and 9.8 million viewers overall. NBC’s ”Smash” had a good showing (2.4/6 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall), coming within 11% of last week’s result despite its softer lead-in and tougher competition from ABC, and outperforming last year’s ”Harry’s Law” on the comparable night by 33% in 18-49.

Elsewhere, CBS was respectable even in repeats with its regulars ”How I Met Your Mother” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall), ”2 Broke Girls” (2.0/6 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall), ”Two and a Half Men” (2.1/5 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall), ”Mike and Molly” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) and ”Hawaii Five-0” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 7.8 million viewers overall).

Fox had another quiet night with an encore ”House” (1.2/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall) followed by ”Alcatraz” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall). The net’s revised Monday lineup of ”Bones” and ”House” kicks off April 2.

At Univision, the premiere of novela ”Abismo de Pasion (Abyss of Passion” delivered a solid 1.6/4 in 18-49 and 3.8 million viewers overall, tying Fox’s ”Alcatraz” in 18-49 for the 9 o’clock hour.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 4.2/11; ABC, 3.0/8; CBS, 1.9/5; Univision, 1.5/4; Fox, 1.4/4; CW, 0.2/1.

In total viewers: NBC, 11.9 million; ABC, 9.3 million; CBS, 7.1 million; Fox, 4.3 million; Univision, 3.6 million; CW, 0.7 million.
