CANNES — AMC/Sundance Channel Global is beefing up its slate by acquiring rights to “Weeds,” “Damages,” “The Straits” and “The Slap.”
Announcements follow recent agreements with pay TV platforms across Europe and Asia for new launches of the Sundance Channel and video-on-demand services.
Four series of “Weeds” have been acquired for Sundance in France and French Benelux via a deal with Lionsgate.
“Damages” has been acquired for the Sundance in Spain and Portugal in a five-season deal with Sony Pictures Television.
“The Straits” is a new 10-part black comedy set in Australia, which will preem in Eastern Europe, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, France, Benelux and select territories in Asia.
Deal was inked with DCD Rights, which has also sold “The Slap” to air on Sundance in Benelux.
