The three-part series of hour-long episodes, which will air on HBO Central Europe next year, will focus on Jan Palach, a student demonstrator who set himself on fire in January 1969 as a protest against the Communist regime’s crackdown on the student-led revolt.
The skein will start lensing in March, and will continue for three months. The script is by Stepan Hulik. The cast, which is yet to be announced, will include Czech and Slovak actors. Completion is set for the end of this year.
Holland, who was Oscar nommed in the foreign film category this week for her Polish Holocaust survival story “In Darkness,” was a film student in Prague at the time of the events to be shown in the series.
Her 1990 film “Europa Europa” was Oscar and BAFTA nommed, and won the Golden Globe.
