Following ratings uptick, both extended to 22 episodes
ABC has given back nine-orders to both sophomore drama “Scandal” and frosh laffer “The Neighbors.” The shows, both of which hail from ABC Studios, are now expected to produce 22 episodes this season.
The pickup of Shonda Rhimes drama “Scandal” comes as the show has stabilized at a solid ratings level this fall. ABC announced earlier this month that another of Rhimes’ shows for ABC, “Private Practice,” will wrap this winter after its 13 episodes.
“Neighbors,” created by Dan Fogelman, has also maintained its ratings level for its recent episodes, retaining about 80% of its lead-in from “The Middle.”
In their most recent outings, “Scandal” and “Neighbors” both earned a 2.0 live plus-same day 18-49 rating, up from a 1.9 the previous week, according to Nielsen
The Alphabet has yet to reveal its midseason plans for new dramas “Last Resort,” “666 Park Avenue” or “Nashville.” Its other new comedy, “Malibu Country,” bows on Friday.
