ABC Family tops in target demos Wednesday

Reality show 'Nannies' joins sitcoms in block

ABC Family extended its Wednesday comedy block with success this week, as the premiere of reality skein “Beverly Hills Nannies” capped a winning night in the net’s core demos.

Nielsen estimates that the hourlong “Nannies” became ABC Family’s top-rated unscripted series preem to date in all core demos, averaging 455,000 women 18-34 and 1.15 million viewers overall in the 9 o’clock hour. In total viewers, it’s the cabler’s most popular reality show launch since “Venus & Serena: For Real” in 2005 (1.5 million).

The net also scored with second-year 8 p.m. comedy “Melissa & Joey,” which drew 1.21 million viewers, including 427,000 women 18-34 and 576,000 females 12-34. And at 8:30 p.m., rookie “Baby Daddy” built on its lead-in in all categories (1.44 million overall, including 487,000 femmes 12-34).

“Nannies” was the top-rated among the three ABC Family shows in women 18-49 (724,000), and “Daddy” was television’s No. 1 scripted original on the night in the females 12-34 category.

From 8 to 10 p.m., ABC Family’s Wednesday comedy block delivered huge gains vs. the year-ago time period, including a 140% surge among women 18-34 (398,000 vs. 166,000).
