ABC Family sends ‘Bunheads’ to series

Sutton Foster stars in Sherman-Palladino project

ABC Family has greenlit drama series “Bunheads,” starring Tony winner Sutton Foster.

Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Gilmore Girls”) is exec producing the series, in which Foster plays a Vegas showgirl who marries and moves to a sleepy town where she works at her mother-in-law’s dance school.

“Amy and I had a great collaboration on ‘Gilmore Girls,'” ABC Family exec veep of original programming and development Kate Juergens said. “Her vision for ‘Bunheads’ aligns beautifully with our brand.”

ABC Family developed an earlier version of the show, then known as “Strut,” with scribe Lamar Damon. Sherman-Palladino came aboard last year.

“Bunheads,” like recently greenlit laffer “Baby Daddy” and unscripted “Beverly Hills Nannies,” will begin production this spring.

Foster’s TV credits include a guest arc on “Flight of the Conchords,” but this is her first series regular role.

ABC Family also revealed that it has passed on “Village People,” a comedy pilot from Meg DeLoatch.
