Shingle to develop reality series based on Brooklyn boxer
Reality shingle A. Smith & Co. is putting its gloves on and entering the boxing ring.
Banner has will develop and produce a docuseries based on the professional and personal life of former boxing champ Paulie Malignaggi, currently training for a April 29 match in the Ukraine against current welterweight champ Vyacheslav Senchenko.
Cameras will follow Brooklyn-raised Malignaggi and his quirky Italian-American entourage through the trials and tribulations of love, boxing and business. Malignaggi has a pro record of 30-4. Senchenko, a Ukraine native, is undefeated in 30 bouts.
Malignaggi has tried to build a career as an actor and on-camera personality. He had a small role in the 2003 TV movie “Undefeated,” has been featured in a handful of commercials and is a character in several videogames.
A. Smith, along with co-producer Level 1 Entertainment, will be looking to sell the project to a network, likely on the cable side. Busy shingle currently produces Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Kitchen Nightmares” and several cable skeins.
