3net launches 3D production division

3net Studios to produce, distribute content

The 3D cabler 3net has launched 3net Studios, a global TV production and distribution division to be based at both Sony Pictures in Los Angeles and Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, Md.

Banner will produce high-quality native 3D content to air on 3net, a 24/7 3D channel from Sony, Discovery and Imax that debuted in early 2011. In addition, 3net Studios will work on projects in “TotalD,” a production strategy that includes native 3D 4K (4,000 pixels), 2D 4K, 3D 2K and both 3D/2D HD formats.

“With the industry now struggling to keep pace with the evolution of 4K and the rapidly accelerating consumer demand for 3D programming across multiple platforms,” said 3net prexy Tom Cosgrove, “the formation of a world-class production studio to help fill both the 3D and ultra high definition content voids became a logical next step in our evolution as a global player in the entertainment arena.”
