NBC renews ‘Community’

Comedy to get limited order of 13 episodes

NBC is bringing back “Community” for 13 episodes next season.

The half-hour, from Sony Pictures Television and Universal Television, is the latest returning Peacock to get a limited episode order. “30 Rock” also got 13 episodes from Universal Television, though that will be its last season.

Another Thursday comedy on NBC, “Parks & Recreation,” is also expected to get a similar order, but the network has yet to make that official.

Another unknown: Whether any of these comedies will be back on Thursday and if they will be held back for midseason.

2012-13 will mark the fourth season of “Community,” which will give the network and studio more episodes for syndication, where Comedy Central nabbed off-net rights earlier this year. Hulu also has limited back-end rights to the show.

Executive producers of “Community” are Dan Harmon, Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff. Garrett Donovan and Neil Goldman are exiting as EPs after the third season to segue into an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV.
