At Friday’s Taste for a Cure gala, friends sang the praises of NBC’s Jennifer Salke, serenading her and raising $575,000 for UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Care Center.
During what 20th Century Fox TV’s Gary Newman called the “audience participation part” of the evening, guests bid on various items including a Costa Rica villa holiday that went for $26,000 and was won by Salke and her husband, Fox 21 prexy Bert Salke.
Twentieth TV’s Dana Walden and “Glee’s” Ryan Murphy were among those praising the honoree’s ability to multi-task, while “Glee’s” Lea Michele and Darren Criss sang a couple of numbers.
“Take it from the rest of us Type A’s. She doesn’t stress at all,” Walden said. She went on to describe how Salke would get to the airport at the last minute, looking her best, and then set off the TSA with all her jewelry, maintaining a calm composure throughout.
Salke, prexy of NBC Entertainment, said she decided to get involved with the charity because her parents are cancer survivors. She had herself tested as a preventive measure and wanted to “be the warrior, move in front of it and just slash and burn.”
