Rita Tuzon, executive VP, general counsel, Fox Network Groups

Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Corporate Strategists

As the highest-ranking female executive at Fox Networks Group, Tuzon oversees a 50-person business affairs and legal team that, in the past year, was front-and-center of Fox’s legal efforts to protect its negotiating window for programming rights to the Los Angeles Dodgers. “Working in sports is a terrific challenge,” she says. “It’s one of the few assets that have a ‘live’ aspect to it every day, not to mention the passion it instills in our viewers.” Her team was instrumental in helping Fox secure distribution deals, including retransmission consent fees and cable network renewals with DirecTV, and is leading the Fox legal challenges regarding Dish Network’s ad-skipping technology and the Aereo time-shifting and streaming service. In addition, she’s ground zero for what can be controversial content from Fox shows, including “Family Guy,” “Sons of Anarchy” and telecasts of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
