Key & Peele: Comedy Central cut-ups earn Presidential endorsement

Comedy Impact Report 2012: TV - Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele

Though Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele began collaborating as regulars on Fox’s “MADtv” a decade ago, the duo really hit it big this year with their sketch show “Key and Peele.” Their self-titled half-hour show is now in its second season on Comedy Central, its ratings boosted by such high-profile fans — and oft-skewered subjects — as Barack and Michelle Obama.

“Meeting the president and getting his endorsement has been huge for our careers this year, and it’s because of him that we even have a show and can do a lot of the subject matter,” says Peele, who plays the hen-pecked POTUS.

“It definitely seems like Michelle holds the remote in that household,” adds Key, who plays Luther, the president’s inner anger-channeler. Interviewed before the election, the duo said they had “no plans” for lampooning Romney, “but we’ve already shot scenes for different outcomes,” Peele hinted.

And while they do have plans for various movie projects, still all in “the embryonic stage,” their focus is very much on the show. “We’re really in love with doing it and seeing how ridiculous and silly we can be, and still make a social point,” Key says.
