Penguins play large part in Discovery premiere
Discovery went all out serving guests “penguintinis” to drink, penguin cookies and ice sculptures for Thursday’s preem of “Frozen Planet” in Gotham. That was fortunate since it was one of the warmest nights New York has seen in a while.
Guests included penguins Pete and Penny, who flew all the way from Sea World in Orlando, Fla., for the event.
“If you haven’t figured it out yet, the theme tonight is penguins,” Discovery topper David Zaslav told the aud at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
Docu series “Frozen Planet,” which premieres March 18 on Discovery, comes from the team that created “Planet Earth.”
Executive producer Alastair Fothergill showed a clip of the extreme cold prior to the screening of the first three episodes. “Just like last Halloween in New York I hear,” he said, referring to last fall’s freak storm.
Glenn Close said she would love to venture to the Antarctic: “Oh, it was just spectacular!” she said of the footage. “Some of the images — you just can’t believe how they even got there to film them.”
