Filipino comedian Dolphy dies

Was nation's 'King of Comedy'

The Philippines’ most popular comedian, fondly called Dolphy, died late Monday, July 9, of multiple organ failure and complications from pneumonia at a hospital in Makati City. He was 83.

Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. was called the country’s “King of Comedy” and entertained generations of Filipinos.

Quizon shot to fame for essaying gay roles and portraying a variety of odd characters.
