Kristin Chenoweth played to the crowd Saturday in her gig as host of the American Humane Assn.’s Hero Dog Awards at the BevHilton.
The Rialto regular hit one of those dog-octave notes that got the attention of all the pups in the aud. “This is just like the rest of awards season,” she quipped. “There’s a lot of begging, everyone wags their tail and just like at the Oscars, the red carpet needs to be steam-cleaned when its over.” The night’s big winner, from a field of eight nominees with tear-jerking backstories, was Gabe, a retired military dog who served more than 200 missions sniffing out bombs in Iraq. There was no shortage of standing ovations for the miracle mutts, punctuated for the TV cameras (the kudos air Nov. 8 on Hallmark Channel) by canned dog barking sound effects.Chenoweth hosts AHA’s Hero Dog Awards
