Vfx house Digital Domain Productions, a subsidiary of Digital Domain Media Group, named David Lipman VP of features visual effects production. The 30-year industry vet will be based in DD’s Venice, Calif. studio, reporting to Jody Madden, who has been upped to senior VP of global studio operations, overseeing production, technology and operations for all of Digital Domain’s worldwide studios. Earlier, Lipman was managing partner at Framestore, where he founded the feature animation division, built the studio’s animation pipeline and crew, and exec-produced “The Tale of Despereaux.” Later he served as co-head of production at DreamWorks Animation, then moved PDI/DreamWorks to become the co-exec-producer on “Shrek.” He was also VP/exec producer at USAnimation, producing spots and episodes of TV shows such as “The Ren and Stimpy Show,” “Beavis & Butthead” and “The Simpsons.”
Commercial and features director Enda McCallion signed with The Traveling Picture Show Company for exclusive representation in the U.S. McCallion is known for his inventive visual and humorous storytelling style that draws on vfx and classic film technique. He made his feature debut with 2009’s “Hit and Run” and currently has a second film in development. His commercial work includes a spot produced on an epic scale promoting TV coverage of golf’s Ryder Cup.
Worldwide vfx company Pixomondo hired Steve Pugh as exec producer to oversee projects in its Burbank office and David Garber as exec producer of motion graphics to lead its new Los Angeles design division. Pugh, formerly with Eden FX, is charged with streamlining the company’s production pipeline to accommodate a growing roster work. Garber will focus on the creation of main titles and graphics for features, commercials and mixed media projects.
Rainer Hercher was promoted to managing director at production equipment maker and rental house Band Pro Munich, a subsidiary of Burbank-based Band Pro Film & Digital. He replaces Gerhard Baier. “Gerhard and Band Pro Munich were instrumental in helping Europe move into the world of HD production,” said Hercher. “I look forward to continuing his tradition.”
Animator/designer Wonhon Lee has joined creative agency and entertainment marketer Bigsmack. He’ll work out of the company’s New York and Philadelphia offices. “Wonhee is the most talented guy I’ve met in many years,” said Bigsmack creative head Andy Hann. “He can design, animate and lead a creative team.”
Argentine editor Diego Panich has joined the roster of editorial boutique Wild(child) Editorial in New York.
