Match Factory likes Venice trio

Berlin-based shingle closes deals on 'Wadjda,' 'Void,' 'Araf'

Berlin-based Match Factory has closed territory sales for three high-profile Venice titles, head of sales Brigitte Suarez confirmed with Variety on Friday.

Haifaa Al Mansour’s “Wadjda,” the first Saudi Arabian feature shot in the kingdom, garnered a warm crit and aud response in Venice and Telluride for its upbeat story about a mother-daughter relationship. Match, which pre-sold the pic to France and Switzerland, closed Italy, Spain, Benelux, the U.K., Brazil and Columbia earlier this week.

Match and U.S. seller UTA are holding a private screening of “Wadjda” for buyers in Toronto on Saturday, in response to high buyer interest.

Match also closed deals for the U.K., France, Switzerland and Benelux for Rama Burshtein’s “Fill The Void,” which had its first Toronto screening Friday.

And Yesim Ustaoglu’s “Araf,” which screened Wednesday in Venice, sold to Benelux and Switzerland. Pic has a private screening in Toronto next week and will play the New York Film Festival.
