Loach celebrates his ‘Share’

Predominantly local cast snagged standing ovation at U.K. premiere

GLASGOW — Fresh from winning the Jury Prize at Cannes, Ken Loach brought eOne’s “The Angels’ Share” home to Glasgow, where the pic was shot.

Loach and his predominantly local cast basked in a prolonged standing ovation at the May 29 U.K. premiere, in probably the only place where the audience will get all the Scottish in-jokes, and won’t need subtitles to understand the pic’s thick Glaswegian accents.

With a nod to the upcoming vote in 2014 on whether Scotland will split from the United Kingdom, the 75-year-old director played to the crowd at the Glasgow Cineworld by declaring, “If and when Scotland does regain its independence, there’s enough drive and talent and commitment to build a brilliant country.”
