Nominee reaction: Nat Faxon, Jim Rash

Adapted screenplay, 'The Descendants'

Nat Faxon and Jim Rash feel like they’re in good company among this year’s screenplay nominees. The pair, up for adapted screenplay honors for “The Descendants,” recall performing sketches alongside “Bridesmaids” writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo (who are nommed for original screenplay) in the Groundlings sketch comedy group more than 10 years ago.

“It’s really fun to go through this process with your friends and people that you wrote sketches with.” Faxon said, noting that they all remember the lean days “when things weren’t happening like this.”

Rash admits to being up early on Tuesday to watch the noms announcement. He’s looking forward to the day an Oscar nominee is doing something more interesting when they hear the news.

“I hope one day someone says they were doing something incredible. ‘Oh, I was out rock climbing,’ ” he suggested.
