Best picture; director; 'Hugo'
The bevy of 11 noms for “Hugo” are especially meaningful to Martin Scorsese because the movie was inspired by his 12-year-old daughter Francesca, who introduced him to the book. But he doesn’t see it as strictly a family pic.
“I have two older daughters, but the younger one was the one that recommended this book,” Scorsese said. “To be honest, I thought it was a film for everybody, not just family (audiences). After all the screenings, we found that children really enjoyed it and the adults reacted really well too,” Scorsese said.
Working with 3D was challenging for everyone on the pic, including the director.
“With the 3D I realized how much it immerses the audience into the world, and a lot of it had to do with how great the performances were and I really felt everyone was on when they came in to work,” he said.
