Exec to head marketing for UMG label

Longtime Island Def Jam exec Jim Roppo has been appointed exec VP of marketing for Universal Republic, the labels’ parent Universal Music Group announced Monday.

First joining IDJ in 1999, Roppo was most recently senior VP of sales for the label, a position he had held since 2006. Roppo will continue to be based in New York, and will report to prexy/COO Monte Lipman and co-prexy/COO Avery Lipman.

“As we continue to expand the suite of services that we offer our artists and business partners, Jim is a perfect fit to lead our marketing efforts,” Monte Lipman said in a statement announcing the hiring.
