Country star Kenny Chesney will be paired with director Jonathan Demme in the latest installment of the live Vevo-YouTube streaming concert series “American Express Unstaged” on June 20.
The 75-minute Web gig, to be shot on the beach in Wildwood, N.J., will succeed the June 19 release of Chesney’s thirteenth album “Welcome to the Fishbowl” by Sony Nashville.
Concert shoot marks a busy month for Oscar-winning helmer Demme (“The Silence of the Lambs”), whose “Neil Young Journeys” opens in New York and Los Angeles on June 29 via Sony Classics. Pic is the director’s third doc on veteran rocker Young, succeeding “Neil Young: Heart of Gold” (2006) and “Neil Young Trunk Show” (2009).
Unlike many of the other name directors employed by the “Unstaged” series, Demme has a long track record shooting music pix: His other credits include the Talking Heads concert doc “Stop Making Sense” (1984) and the intimate Robyn Hitchcock portrait “Storefront Hitchcock” (1998).
Previous “Unstaged” dates have paired Jack White with Gary Oldman, Arcade Fire with Terry Gilliam, Duran Duran with David Lynch and My Morning Jacket
with Todd Haynes.
