Grammy nom telecast set for Dec. 5

Special to be held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena

Refreshing the Grammys’ TV mix, the Recording Academy will mount its annual CBS nominations special at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for the first time on Dec. 5.

“The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night” will air at 10 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. CT. One element will not change despite the new time zone: The telecast will continue to air in the West as a 10 p.m. tape delay.

Recording Academy prexy-CEO Neil Portnow said in a statement, “Nashville’s rich musical and cultural history is so important and vital to our industry, and indeed to the world — a fact the Academy has recognized for decades by locating one of our most thriving and active chapters there.”

In its fifth year, the special, which unveils nominees in the top Grammy categories, will hit Music City after four stands in Los Angeles. Last year’s event aired from the Nokia Theater at L.A. Live.

There’s no word yet on whether the change of venue will entail a new host; rapper and “NCIS: Los Angeles” regular LL Cool J has emceed the event solo for three years after co-hosting with Taylor Swift in 2008, the show’s inaugural year.

The 55th Grammy Awards will air Sunday, Feb. 10, from Staples Center, the ceremony’s home since 2004. The main event was last held outside L.A. in 2003, when it played New York’s Madison Square Garden.
