Specials look back at singer's career
A handful of cablers have scheduled programs in remembrance of Whitney Houston. Tributes to the singer, who died Saturday at the Beverly Hilton, will be spread throughout the dial.VH1 will air three specials, starting with “Whitney Houston: The Death of a Diva” at 9:30 p.m. Monday. Show will feature the latest news regarding the causes of Houston’s death as well as tributes from music industry professionals and fans. A half-hour later, the net will acknowledge Houston in “100 Greatest Women in Music” and at 11 p.m. Thursday VH1will debut “VH1 News Presents Whitney Houston’s Greatest Moments.” Over at sibling Viacom cabler MTV, the net’s AMTV sister station will feature nonstop Houston musicvideos from 6-9 a.m. And Viacom net BET will be offering Houston specials as well. At 3:30 p.m. today “Celebration of Gospel” is scheduled. “Gospel” is Houston’s last televised performance. On a three-hour edition of “106 & Park” that airs 6 p.m. Monday, BET will pay tribute to Houston’s life. To acknowledge Houston’s bigscreen career, Lifetime is replaying her pic “The Bodyguard” at 8 p.m. Monday. The film, which co-starred Kevin Costner and grossed more than $410 million worldwide, features two Oscar-nominated songs: “I Have Nothing” and “Run to You.”
