Composer to receive Richard Kirk kudo at the org's Film and Television Awards

Composer Rolfe Kent will receive BMI’s Richard Kirk Award at the performing rights org’s annual Film and Television Awards, the org announced on Wednesday.

BMI’s awards ceremony will be held on May 16 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, honoring composers of the year’s most popular films and TV programs. Previous recipients of the Kirk lifetime kudo include John Williams, John Barry, Danny Elfman and Alan Menken.

Kent’s resume includes numerous scores for the films of Jason Reitman (“Young Adult,” “Up in the Air”) and Alexander Payne (“Sideways,” “About Schmidt,” “Election”), as well as “Legally Blonde,” “Mean Girls” and the theme to Showtime’s “Dexter.” He recently signed on to score the Coen brothers-scripted “Gambit,” directed by Michael Hoffman.
