Singer nabs three honors including artist of the year
Justin Bieber won big at Sunday’s American Music Awards, picking up three honors including artist of the year.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the kudocast also marked a more unfortunate milestone with its first broadcast since the death of longtime producer Dick Clark, who was acknowledged with a Stevie Wonder performance at the event in downtown L.A.’s Nokia Theater.
In addition to the night’s top honor, Bieber also won awards for pop-rock male artist and pop-rock album for his “Believe.” Katy Perry won for favorite pop-rock female artist, and Carly Rae Jepsen was named best new artist.
Other winners included Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Linkin Park and Nicki Minaj. French DJ David Guetta won the inaugural AMA for an electronic dance music artist.
