3D doc goes where no pic has gone before

BERLIN — ZDF Enterprises has boarded 3D documentary “Encounter in Outer Space,” which promises the first 3D images from the Intl. Space Station.

ZDF Enterprises, the commercial arm of German pubcaster ZDF, will handle worldwide sales for “Encounter,” which “takes the viewer on a journey into the fascinating world of space travel, with images of breathtaking beauty,” including visits to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston and “Star City” near Moscow.

Juergen Hansen and Simone Stripp of Gaul’s Prospect TV Prods. are producing “Encounter” for French-German pubcaster Arte.

The film accompanies Dutch European Space Agency astronaut Andre Kuipers during his mission aboard the ISS — even capturing an unforeseen event that abruptly interrupts the astronauts’ everyday lives — while on Earth, German astronaut Alexander Gerst is prepping for his mission to the ISS.

“Encounter” is scheduled for completion in December.
