Gould, Melamed star in indie comedy

Virgil Films has acquired the U.S. rights to Richard Ledes’ comedy “Fred Won’t Move Out,” starring Elliott Gould, Fred Melamed, Stephanie Roth Haberle and Judith Roberts.

Deal was negotiated Friday at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival between Virgil Films president Joseph Amodei and Joe Infantolino, exec producer of “Fred.”

Film opens theatrically in New York on Sept. 21 followed by a rollout in Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and Phoenix. A release on digital platforms and DVD will follow shortly thereafter.

Ledes produced, directed and wrote “Fred,” which was shot in his childhood home in Westchester County, N.Y. The movie presents the dilemma faced by two grown children as it becomes clear their aging parents are no longer better off in the family home in which they have lived for 50 years … or are they?

Virgil also distributed Ledes’ 2008 feature “The Caller,” which also starred Gould.
