Winningham joins ‘Tribes’

Cast set for Off Broadway play

Mare Winningham is among the thesps signed on to appear this spring in the commercial Off Broadway production “Tribes.”

Jeff Perry, Susan Pourfar, Will Brill, Russell Harvard and Gayle Rankin also will appear in the show, to be helmed by David Cromer (“The House of Blue Leaves”). Nina Raines’ play, which earned critical plaudits in its 2010 preem at London’s Royal Court, centers on a deaf young man and his hearing family.

Design team for the U.S. incarnation includes Scott Pask (sets), Tristan Raines (costumes), Keith Parham (lights), Daniel Kluger (sounds) and Jeff Sugg (projections).

“Tribes” marks a return to Off Broadway’s Barrow Street Theater for Cromer, whose staging of “Our Town” saw an unusually long run there. “Our Town” producers Scott Morfee, Jean Doumanian and Tom Wirtshafter reteam to produce the commercial staging of “Tribes,” which begins previews Feb. 16 ahead of a March 4 opening.
