Seven productions of hit tuner are running

LONDON — “Wicked” will tour the U.K. and Ireland, starting Nov. 19, 2013 at the Palace Theater, Manchester, U.K., exec producer Michael McCabe announced Monday.

The London production of the Stephen Schwartz, Winnie Holzman tuner, now in its seventh year, continues its run at the Apollo Victoria, where it has been seen by almost five million people.

Including the original Gotham production, now in its 10th year, there are seven productions of “Wicked” running with a total worldwide audience of more than 35 million.

“Wicked” is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures Stage Prods., The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

In further road news, worldwide hit spoof “The 39 Steps,” celebrating its sixth year at the West End’s Criterion Theater, will also tour the U.K. in 2013.

The Olivier and Tony-winner will open at Cambridge Arts Theater Jan. 19, 2013.

Adapted by Patrick Barlow and helmed by Maria Aitken, the production is designed by Peter McKintosh and is presented by Edward Snape for Fiery Angel and Tricycle London Prods. with the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
