West End ‘Heart’ stops

RSC show to shutter early

The West End transfer of “Written on the Heart,” the Royal Shakespeare Company production of David Edgar’s historical drama, will shutter less than a month after its April 23 opening.

Produced at the 476-seat Duchess Theater by Bill Kenwright, Thelma Holt and Ambassador Theater Group in association with Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer, the wordy play about the translation of the 1611 King James Bible was skedded to run until July 21 but failed to catch on with auds.

The play was helmed by Gregory Doran, recently appointed to succeed Michael Boyd as a.d. of the RSC.
