Hot on the heels of the 2011-12 Tony Awards, the Tony Awards Admin Committee is laying the groundwork for the 2012-13 edition, naming a 42-member nominating committee that includes new additions such as Rick Elice (a recent Tony nominee for “Peter and the Starcatcher”), Cheyenne Jackson, John Lequizamo and Mary-Louse Parker.
Also joining the council are helmers Arin Arbus (“Othello”) and Mark Brokaw (“The Lyons”), choreographers Donald Byrd and Liza Gennaro, lyricist Susan Birkenhead (“Minksy’s”), composer-lyricist Adam Guettel (“The Light in the Piazza”), costume designer Ann Hould-Ward and projection designer Wendall K. Harrington. Doris Duke Charitable Foundation’s Ben Carmeron, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts’ Jacqueline Z. Davis, New York U. Tisch School of the Arts’ Mary Schmidt Campbell and scribe and former journo John Darnton also are among the incoming freshmen on the committee.
Nominators serve three-year terms that begin and end on a staggered sked. Already on the roster are helmers Michael Greif, Moises Kaufman and Pam MacKinnon, TDF’s Victoria Bailey, New Dramatists’ Todd London, thesp Boyd Gaines and writer-director Chay Yew, among others.
