Tim Rice to be feted at Olivier awards

Ceremony to take place on April 15

Oscar, Golden Globe, Tony and Grammy-winning lyricist Tim Rice will received the honorary Special Award at this year’s Olivier awards.

The multi award-winning Brit lyricist is currently riding high in Blighty and on Broadway.

“The Lion King,” which had its Gotham opening in 1997, and its West End transfer in 1999, is still running in both cities with a road production in the U.S., plus productions in Japan, Germany and Spain.

“Jesus Christ Superstar” is previewing at New York’s Neil Simon Theater, and is readying a U.K. stadium tour, “Evita” is previewing at Broadway’s Marquis, and “The Wizard of Oz,” to which he has added some new songs, is currently running at the London Palladium.

The ceremony for the 36th Olivier awards will take place at London’s Royal Opera House on Sunday April 15.
