LaBute, Rudnick among writers on the slate

New one-acts by scribes including Neil LaBute and Paul Rudnick are among the offerings on tap for Summer Shorts 2012, this year’s edition of the Off Broadway fest of brief new works.

Walter Bobbie (“Venus in Fur”) has signed on to helm Rudnick’s show, called “Cabin Pressure.” Not all directors have been set for all the plays, including for LaBute’s, titled “The Furies.”

Other writers to be showcased in the series are Nancy Giles, the “CBS News Sunday Morning” contributor, with her new play “The Accidental Pundette”; Wendy Kesselman (“Spit,” helmed by Jade King Caroll); tuner scribes Sam Davis and Sean Hartley (“Love and Real Estate,” directed by Devanand Janki); and the late James McClure (“Drive-In Dreams,” with Billy Hopkins helming).

Exec producer J.J, Kandel and producing a.d. John McCormack, both of Throughline Artists, produce.

The sixth annual edition of Summer Shorts is subdivided into two full evenings that will play in rotation. Productions run July 26-Sept. 1 at Off Broadway’s 59E59 Theaters.
