‘Sex Tips’ aims for Off Broadway

New stage comedy is based on how-to book

How-to book “Sex Tips for Straight Women From a Gay Man” is being developed as a stage comedy that aims to bow next year in a commercial Off Broadway production.

Matt Murphy, who has been on the producing team of shows including “Memphis,” “Thurgood” and “Altar Boyz,” produces the show and also co-writes with Jim Brochu, the writer-performer whose Zero Mostel bio-play, “Zero Hour,” had a long life Off Broadway and regionally.

Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman’s 1997 book — which recently had a cameo in Meryl Streep-Tommy Lee Jones starrer “Hope Springs” — is being adapted into a three-character stage comedy. Murphy aims to get the show on the boards for an open-ended run early next year.

Further details about the production, including director, cast and exact dates, remain to be set.
