The West Coast bow of the Jeff Goldblum-led Broadway hit “Seminar” and Rachel York in the classic “Anything Goes” are among the highlights of the Ahmanson’s 2012-13 season.
“The Scottsboro Boys,” Beatles bio “Backbeat” and Judy Garland drama “The End of the Rainbow” round off the new schedule, with the high-energy music “Fela!” making a return as a season bonus option.
“Seminar” kicks off the new season, running Oct. 10-Nov. 18, to be followed by “Anything Goes” from Nov. 27-Jan. 6. “Backbeat,” based on the Universal pic makes its American preem Jan. 16-Feb. 24. “Rainbow” makes its West Coast bow March 12-April 21 while “Fela,” which was on the current lineup is back April 25-May 5.
Kander & Ebb’s “Scottsboro Boys” brings up the close May 21-June 30.
“This new season at the Ahmanson will be like a blast of creative energy from beginning to end,” Center Theater Group artistic director Michael Ritchie said. “It’s the successful, the entertaining, the enlightening theatrical season when range, variety and theatricality are its hallmarks. This new season at the Ahmanson Theatre reaches all those marks, and then some.”
