Actors join Off Broadway production
Amy Ryan and David Schwimmer will topline the Off Broadway bow of Lisa D’Amour’s play “Detroit.”
Ryan’s stage credits include the 2005 Broadway revival of “A Streetcar Named Desire” and the West End staging of “The Distance From Here.” Schwimmer last appeared on the Gotham boards in the 2006 Rialto production of “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.”
Anne Kauffman (“Maple and Vine”) helms the Playwrights production of the play, which bowed at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater in a 2010 incarnation that starred Laurie Metcalf.
Schwimmer and Ryan will play a suburban couple whose bond with their new neighbors begins to threaten their status quo. Three more thesps remain to be cast in the comedy.
D’Amour was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for “Detroit” and scored the 2011 Steinberg Playwright Award for her work.
“Detroit” begins previews Aug. 24 ahead of a mid-September opening, with an exact date yet to be announced.
