Roundabout way to roast Marshall

Short adds sizzle to spring gala

Plenty of stars turned out to honor Rob Marshall at the Roundabout Theater Company’s spring gala Monday at Gotham’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

But the most memorable appearance was made by Jiminy Glick, the alter ego of gala host Martin Short. He dragged Marshall up onstage ostensibly for a this-is-your-life interview but turned it into a roast with digs such as, “I must say, Rob, whatever cosmetic surgery you’ve done — 20% more, and then stop.”

He also raised the specter of sibling rivalry between Marshall and his sister, Kathleen, helmer of the evening’s entertainment. Glick started by pointing out that Marshall has never won a Tony despite multiple nominations. “Why are they honoring you, if you lost so much?” Glick asked. “Because your sister’s won three, right?”

Marshall took it all in stride, but he didn’t rule out a little friendly interfamily revenge for hauling him up in front of the crowd. “I have to say, Kathleen, you’re dead,” he vowed.
