'Glee' actress lands New York stage gig
Amber Riley (“Glee”) has signed on for a stint in the brief fall run of “Cotton Club Parade,” the Encores!-presented musical about the famous Jazz Age venue.
Riley, who makes her Gotham stage debut in the tuner, will appear alongside Adriane Lenox, Brandon Victor Dixon and Jared Grimes, all three of whom appeared in the show’s 2011 bow. Warren Carlyle, helmer and choreographer of upcoming Rialto outing “Chaplin” as well as choreographer of “A Christmas Story,” returns to stage “Cotton Club.”
The last cast member of “Glee” to land on the New York boards, Darren Criss, proved a B.O. boon to the musical he toplined, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” Thesp pulled in weekly sales of more than $1 million over the three weeks he appeared in the show.
The second engagement of “Cotton Club,” which showcases the tunes of Duke Ellington, was prompted in part by the strong reviews the production earned the first time around. The 2012 edition runs seven perfs Nov. 14-18.
City Center presents the production in addition to its upcoming spring lineup of Encores! musicals, which in 2013 will include concert stagings of “On Your Toes,” “Fiorello!” and “It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman.”
