Regent’s Park hears ‘Ragtime’

Sheader to direct outdoor production

Ragtime” will have its first London revival in an outdoor production at Regent’s Park Open Air Theater this summer.

The 1996 tuner, revived on Broadway in a well-reviewed but sales-challenged staging in 2009, will be helmed by Regent’s Park a.d. Timothy Sheader. He was also the director, with Liam Steel, of Regent’s Park’s Olivier-winning 2010 production of “Into the Woods,” and will reprise his duties for a summer revival of “Woods” at Central Park’s Delacorte Theater as part of Shakespeare in the Park.

Almost all of the 26-member acting company of “Ragtime” will also appear in helmer Matthew Dunster’s new production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Designed by Jon Bausor with musical direction by Nigel Lilley (“Company,” “Sweet Charity”), both “Ragtime” and “Midsummer” run May 18 to Sept. 8.
