Musical plans tour for summer 2013

Much-nommed Broadway musical “Once” has already laid the groundwork for a national tour, with producers planning to send out a road production in summer 2013.

Show, based on the 2006 Fox Searchlight pic, has attracted major heat during the legit world’s spring awards season. “Once” racked up 11 Tonys noms — the highest tally of any show this year — and snagged multiple nods from the Outer Critics Circle, the Drama League and the Drama Desk.

“Once” also just led the pack of winners at Off Broadway’s Lortel Awards with three kudos, including the top trophy for musical. Production qualified for the Off Broadway laurels in its pre-Rialto run at New York Theater Workshop in the fall.

Show is produced by a team of commercial producers led by Barbara Broccoli, John N. Hart Jr., Patrick Milling Smith and Frederick Zollo. The tour is repped by booking agency the Road Co., also handling road incarnations of “Billy Elliot,” “Wicked” and “Bring It On,” among others. Exact dates and stops for the “Once” tour have yet to be set.
