‘Once’ sets West End bow

London incarnation opens April 9 at Phoenix

LONDON — “Once,” the eight-time Tony winning tuner based on the motion picture written and directed by John Carney, will open on London’s West End in spring 2013.

The London incarnation, produced by Barbara Broccoli, John N. Hart Jr., Patrick Milling Smith, Frederick Zollo, Brian Carmody, Michael G. Wilson, Orin Wolf and Michael Rose Limited in association with New York Theatre Workshop, will play the Phoenix theater, recently made vacant by the closure of “Blood Brothers,” one of the West End’s longest runners. Previewing from March 16, “Once” opens April 9.

All senior creatives from the Gotham run remain in place. Casting for the London production is due to be announced shortly.
