Bernadette Peters will receive a lifetime achievement award from New Dramatists at the legit org’s annual spring luncheon, one of the slew of stage kudos that hit Gotham in May.
Another luncheon — this one the Drama League Awards — also has lined up talent appearances, tapping Stockard Channing and John Larroquette to host the org’s 78th annual awards.
Playwright-centric New Dramatists gives Peters its kudo for a long career that has included “Into the Woods,” “Sunday in the Park with George,” “Gypsy” and this season’s revival of “Follies.” She’s also well-known in the legit community for charity endeavors with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and dog-adoption benefit “Broadway Barks.”
Past honorees at the luncheon have included producer Roger Berlind, helmer Julie Taymor and scribe Edward Albee, among others.
Channing, currently on the Rialto in “Other Desert Cities,” and Larroquette, now starring in “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man,” will host the annual event from the Drama League, the audience and artist development nonprofit. Five competitive awards will be handed out during the ceremony, as well as previously announced honors to Alan Menken, Rosie O’Donnell and Diane Paulus.
The 78th Drama League Awards are set for May 18, with noms to be announced April 24. New Dramatists lunch is skedded for May 24. Both are held at midtown Manhattan’s Marriott Marquis.
