‘Music’ gets second listen

Developing musical to be seen in N.Y. presentation

Karen Ziemba is on board for the latest industry presentation of brewing tuner “Beyond the Music,” set to get a Gotham showcase later this month.

Musical about an aspiring singer-songwriter’s struggles to make it in the music biz was last seen in New York in a couple of readings in September. That outing starred Rob Bartlett (“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”) and Katie Rose Clarke, both of whom are back this time around.

Claybourne Elder (“Bonnie and Clyde”) and Ziemba, a Tony winner for “Contact,” are also on the bill for the tuner alongside an ensemble cast.

Producer Andy Sandberg penned the book and also directs the production, which has songs by Cliff Downs and Karie Kahanovitz. Sandberg previously directed the Off Broadway staging of “The Last Smoker in America,” which he also produced; on Broadway he’s been on the producing team of shows including “Hair” and “The Best Man.”

“Beyond the Music” presentations are set for Jan. 28-29.
