Olivier and Tony winner Douglas Hodge (“La Cage aux Folles”) will play Willy Wonka in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the new tuner opening at the West End’s Theater Royal Drury Lane on June 25.
Produced by Warner Bros. Theater Ventures, Neal Street Prods. and Kevin McCormick, “Charlie” is helmed by Sam Mendes and features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman (“Hairspray,” “Smash”) and a book by Scottish playwright David Greig.
Set and costume designs are by Mark Thompson (“Mamma Mia!,” “One Man, Two Guvnors”) and choreography is by Peter Darling (“Billy Elliot,” “Matilda”).
Hodge is currently headlining Jamie Lloyd’s Roundabout Theater Company production of “Cyrano de Bergerac” on Broadway.
